Vantage Point Center for Psychotherapy is a community group therapy practice that works with a diversity of presenting problems and also has specialists in the treatment of Anxiety Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders (OCD), Eating Disorders, Trauma/PTSD, Psychosis, Relationship Issues. We welcome diversity of sexual orientation, gender, SES, and race. We work with people across the lifespan with a majority being teens and adults, individually and in groups. At Vantage Point, we believe that each individual is unique and valuable. We strive to provide the best therapeutic care available by using an individualized, empirically- supported, compassionate, and comprehensive approach to treating our clients. Our goal is to deeply understand each client's needs and to provide ethical and customized treatment plans to help our client's heal, find balance, and to have fulfilling relationships and lives. Our training program is an extension of our center where we value diversity, education, and training and want to install that in the next generation of therapists. Our interns are a big part of our organization which better allows us to provide care to people throughout our community who might not receive the care.

Population

We treat a diverse range of presenting problems, backgrounds, and ages. Our clients present with depression, relationship issues, psychosis, anxiety, OCD, Eating Disorders, Personality Disorders, trauma and complex trauma, LGBTQIA, college students, teens. Our clients come from many backgrounds and present the full spectrum of diversity of Sacramento.

Training and Education Offered

Our goal is to provide compassionate and ethical care to members of the Sacramento region community. We want to provide care to a diversity of clientele and training and education allows us to reach more people and to train the next generation of psychologists. We also provide specialty care for hard to treat disorders and this allows those who wouldn't be able to access specialty care the ability to do so while training future specialists in the treatment of OCD and eating disorders. We offer care to Medi-cal clients in specialty areas that would otherwise not receive the specialized services. We also now have an assessment track where we provide comprehensive psychological assessments.

X-Cultural Training

Opportunties:

Multicultural and diversity training is a large part of our organization. We have experts in the community come to present on working with culturally/ethnically diverse clients, white privilege, and microagressions. We also have an expert do a presentation at the start of the training year in working with suicidality in LGBTQIA community and a speaker on working with Transgender community. Also, the organization is run and owned by members of the LGBTQIA and many of our clients belong to the community.

Responsibilities

For full-time students, they will carry a caseload of 22-25 including running 1-2 groups. Interns will do case presentations in group supervision, read for specialty areas, do crisis management, case management, and intake assessments. If there is opportunity for psychological assessment, this will also be part of the training. There is an opportunity for those with previous assessment experience to apply for our assessment track. In this track you will spend half of your time providing assessment services and half direct clinical care.

Prerequisites

Required/Desired Experience:

Experience and interest in working with ED, Trauma, OCD, and groups. we would Ideally prefer students that are interested in working with diverse population and LGBTQIA clients. For Assessment, we want someone with significant Assessment experience, i.e., full Assessment Practicum.

Brief Description of Requirements:

We encourage students with strong clinical (individual) experience to apply. Previous experience in community mental health or university setting would be helpful. Experience or special interest in anxiety disorders/OCD and eating disorder treatment would be a huge plus. We are looking for students who have worked with adult/teens clients individually and groups, know how to treatment plan, have some formation of their theoretical orientation, and most importantly a desire to learn, grow, and be flexible. We value team work, multicultural competence, understanding about white privilege, and interest/experience with the LGBTQIA+ community. For our Assessment track please have at least one practicum with significant assessment experience.

Interview Process:

The interview process consists of an individual interview and will include a case presentation and possibly a group interview. It will also include interviewing and discussions with current interns.
