The Center for Family Wellness is a community-based agency that provides psychological treatment, education, training, and community outreach services to the underserved population in the greater Los Angeles and San Fernando Valley.

Agency Mission

We are committed to meeting the needs of the underserved population (especially minorities), vulnerable children, traumatized and victims of violent crimes, and anyone struggling with psychological and /or interpersonal conflicts. The center uses programs that are innovative, effective, evidence-based and culturally sensitive. The model treatment emphasizes an ecological system with the collaboration and participation of the individual, family, school personnel, government institutions, and other community-based programs.

Population

Our agency primarily serves children and families that have been impacted by a violent crime. The majority of our clients are seen for mood disorders and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Training and Education Offered

The educational and training objectives are based on (1) gaining comprehensive experience on working with individuals and families with a history of abuse and trauma; learn about trauma and its short and long-term impact on individuals, families, and the community; (2) instructing on and assisting them with implementation of evidence-based practices/interventions that are effective in treating the problems commonly associated with trauma; (4) increase their abilities to assess, monitor, and document client functioning/progress; (5) increase their ability to complete a comprehensive risk assessment and determine safety plan; and (6) increase their ability to collaborate with other professionals.

X-Cultural Training

Opportunties:

Multicultural training is of upmost importance at our agency and is a large part of our training program. It is offered through in-service trainings, guest speakers, and individual/group supervision. Our clients come from a variety of background and cultures, making it essential for interns to be culturally aware and sensitive.

Language(s) staff can use in the delivery of clinical services:

The majority of our clients speak English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

Interns are responsible for scheduling and managing their caseload, keeping up with their documentation, and coming prepared to supervision and trainings. They are expected to adhere to all agency regulations.

Prerequisites

Required/Desired Experience:

Experience in working with children and families, preferably in a community agency.

Brief Description of Requirements:

Education: Applicant must have BA from accredited school of college, terminal Master’s Degree preferred. Experience: Minimum 2 years experience providing psychotherapy. Bilingual / Bicultural strongly desired.

What we are looking for:

Experience providing therapy to children/adolescents and families. We would like someone who is opened to feedback, eager to learn, responsible, proactive, and works well in a multidisciplinary team. Spanish speaking is strongly preferred.
