The doctoral internship training program in clinical psychology at Mind Therapy Clinic is designed to foster highly proficient and well-rounded mental health professionals and provide breadth and depth of training in the practical application of clinical psychology and therapy across a broad range of mental disorders and facilitate further development in specific areas of concentration. The goal of our training program is to provide the intern with a solid foundation based on scientific and empirical knowledge of approaches that can be implemented in the formulation of treatment plans for identified clinical problems and presenting issues in patients and in addition, aims to cultivate clinical integrity, ethical, social and personal responsibility to the profession and to the clients. Interns also engage in didactic and experiential learning to enhance social and emotional competencies, self-awareness and self-management. These objectives are fostered through one-on-one supervision, mentoring, clinical work, group therapy, seminars, performance reviews as well as live observation of clinical work.Population
Mind Therapy Clinic serves clients with varying degrees of mental illness, ranging from higher functioning clients in outpatient therapy to the more severely mentally ill in our intensive treatment programs. A majority of our treatment program clients present with co-occurring substance use disorders. Our mission is to help develop competent, creative and innovative clinicians who are able to work with a broad range of clients. Thus, we foster learning a variety of evidence-based therapies provided by experts in their field. Interns will learn how to adapt their skills to clients with varying levels of distress, ranging from higher functioning outpatient clients to more severely mentally ill clients in our intensive programs. Interns will also learn to work with insurance companies to gather insight into the system, which is often difficult for clients to navigate. Interns will also learn to provide case management as needed to focus on skill building and structured interventions. Interns will learn to work as an extended team by collaborating with external and internal treatment teams. Intern will learn to manage crises.X-Cultural Training
Opportunties:
Our population consists of individuals struggling with co-occurring disorders and come from varying paths of life and cultural backgrounds. Interns will receive didactic training, supervision and assignments to familiarize themselves with this particular population and use appropriate interventions: Multicultural training is part of the didactic schedule, will be incorporated via assignments in individual and group supervision and will be an ongoing part of individual and group supervision. Supervisors will guide interns in adapting protocols and interventions to the population served. Psychological assessments offered at the Mind Therapy Clinic will allow for tailoring to cognitive strength and weaknesses. Working closely with our neuropsychologist and psychiatrist as well as outside treatment providers, interns will learn to collaborate and consult with professionals in order to adapt their interventions to clients' needs. Moreover, interns will participate in self-exploration to promote self-awareness of how their own and clients' culture influence the therapeutic relationship, their assessment and diagnosis, case conceptualization and treatment planning. Group supervision will provide an opportunity for interns to take an active role in discussing and implementing institutional policies that considers the needs of the population served and increase multicultural awareness. Supervisors will consistently evaluate interns' multicultural competence to ensure client well-being. Interns take part in networking events that consist of outreach and education as well as are encouraged to take part in our online blog, writing about topics of interest relevant to the population served.Language(s) staff can use in the delivery of clinical services:

Provide individual and group psychotherapy to clients in the facility as directed by clinical supervisor. Provide case management, which includes tox screens and utilization reviews. Attend clinical meetings, individual supervision, group supervision, case conferences and didactic trainings. Engage in autodidactic efforts to increase psychological acumen. Possess knowledge of psychotropic medications (use and side effects). Have an understanding of how co-occurring diagnoses can exacerbate the psychiatric diagnosis. Possess an understanding of the DSM-5 as a basis for diagnosis. Coordinate care with team and/or outside providers and arrange for appropriate treatment, discharge plans and follow up care. Protect rights and maintain confidentiality of persons served. Maintain professional demeanor at all times and remain aware of negative dynamics that may emerge. Maintain a professional relationship with clinical supervisors, program administrators and clinical staff. Adhere to established ethical guidelines and California law as it applies to the provision of mental health services. Provide services only as directed by supervisor within the confines of the program. Comply with Mind Therapy Clinic's policy requirement to submit proof of valid CDL, maintain good driving record, and submit proof of auto insurance for current period of coverage. Assure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, and Mind Therapy Policies and Procedures. Tack their clinical hours. Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.Prerequisites
