Sharper Future is a Forensic Mental Health Program. The program accepts referrals from the community, but the majority of the clients in the program are referred by the courts, federal probation/pretrial, probation/parole, and private attorneys. Among the many individuals receiving services, a good number are referred for Sharper Future's expertise in working with sex offenders. Sharper Future focuses on the use of empirically based methods of assessment and treatment. Our containment and treatment approach uses techniques that have proven to increase accountability, improve self-control, and reduce criminal behaviors.Agency Mission
We at Sharper Future believe that every individual is entitled to live in a safe community. To assist in attaining this goal, we strive to provide Social Rehabilitation and Relapse Prevention services to a diverse population involved in the criminal justice system.Population
Sharper Future provides assessment and treatment services to a unique population that includes: Caucasian, Latino, Asian, African American and Native American populations who have been labeled offenders or former-offenders by the criminal justice system. Required days and times
Tuesday: 12-3 pm, Trainings and groups Supervision. Total 24 hrs per week including two evenings per week, Individual Supervision TBA.Training and Education Offered
Our objective in training pre-doctoral interns is to provide excellent supervision and education for developing therapists. Interns are trained in the use of specialized tools for working with forensic populations. Report writing is a particular expertise our interns and practicum students develop. Our training also includes treatment for substance abuse, criminal thinking and sex offending behavior. Our interns are typically paired with a seasoned clinician and, when ready, empowered to exercise their own leadership skills within group and individual treatment formats. Supervision is always accessible in that we currently have 2 licensed psychologists, 1 licensed MFT. Our staff Psychiatrist provides weekly consultation to our interns, but does not provide formal supervision.X-Cultural Training
Opportunties:
Integrated into bi-monthly presentations/in-services and issues related to cultural influences in treatment and assessment are discussed regularly.Responsibilities
Interns and practicum students co-facilitate group treatment, provide individual psychotherapy, intake assessments, and participate in staff meetings and trainings.Prerequisites
Required/Desired Experience:
Psychometric and psychodiagnostic testing. Group Therapy experience.Brief Description of Requirements:
Group therapy training is strongly preferred.Application Procedures

This agency works with adults who are turning their lives around. Many are highly motivated to develop a fresh start. Some are less so. We employ motivational interviewing, CBT and insight oriented therapy to help them establish greater success in their relationships, work, health and careers.Additional Comments
