Project Sister Family Services is dedicated to providing services to survivors of sexual assault and child abuse and their non-offending family members. Our service area is located in eastern Los Angeles and western San Bernardino Counties and our office is in Pomona. We have three departments: Hotline, Counseling and Outreach Services.

Population

Crisis and counseling services are offered free of charge to survivors of sexual violence and/or child abuse of all ages, gender identities, ethnicities and income levels and to non-offending family members living in eastern Los Angeles and western San Bernardino Counties.

Training and Education Offered

Our objective is to train interns to work with people who have had their lives dramatically altered by the trauma of sexual assault and/or child abuse. All unlicensed interns and staff are required to take our state-approved Advocate Certification class before they can even talk to a client on the phone or in person. We teach the interns how to work from a trauma-informed position keeping the client needs as the central focus. All of our treatment is individualized to the client rather than the client having to conform to one program that is prescribed for all. We have a weekly didactic training that covers topics from suicide assessment to uses of play therapy to gender issues and everything in between and we pull from all types of therapeutic orientations to find what works best for each client, including cognitive behavioral therapy, humanistic therapy, family systems therapy, psychodynamic therapy and so on.

Opportunties:

As part of the 40-hour state-approved Advocate Certification Class Interwoven into most all training sessions as 85% of our clients are other than caucasion.

Responsibilities

1. Obtain agency-approved Advocate Certification (Sexual Assault Counselor, California evidence code, section 1035.2) and maintain annual continuing education requirements. 2. Participate in 1 hour of individual supervision weekly 3. Participate in 1.5 hours of didactic training weekly 4. Participate in 2 hours of group supervision weekly 5. Participate in 3 hours of case conference monthly 6. Provide crisis counseling both face-face, teletherapy and phone-based. 7. Provide individual and group psychotherapy to children, adolescents and adults. 8. Provide case management and advocacy services. 9. Clinical documentation as required. 10. Carry a caseload of 12 to 14 clients.

Prerequisites

Required/Desired Experience:

Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience Spanish fluency is a plus, but not required

Brief Description of Requirements:

clinical experience in a community mental health setting would be helpful.

Application Procedures

We will have 2 spaces for Predoctoral interns for 2022-23 training year. Interview case presentation conceptualization of a case Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination required at time of interview

Interview Process:

Individual interview with at least 2 supervisors This interview consists of a set of prepared questions aimed at determining ability to work in the stressful field of trauma. Share a case presentation from your clinical experience including things you might do differently now Repond to a clinical vignette and conceptualize the case.

Willingness to learn about trauma, emotional maturity, clarity of areas for growth.
