Training and Education Offered by Internship

Please describe your objective in training Predoctoral interms. Please include a brief description of your training program and how it fits within the goals or mission of your agency:

Our objective is to train interns to work with people who have had their lives dramatically altered by the trauma of sexual assault and/or child abuse. All unlicensed interns and staff are required to take our state-approved Advocate Certification class before they can even talk to a client on the phone or in person. We teach the interns how to work from a trauma-informed position keeping the client needs as the central focus. All of our treatment is individualized to the client rather than the client having to conform to one program that is prescribed for all. We have a weekly didactic training that covers topics from suicide assessment to uses of play therapy to gender issues and everything in between and we pull from all types of therapeutic orientations to find what works best for each client, including cognitive behavioral therapy, humanistic therapy, family systems therapy, psychodynamic therapy and so on.

If applicable, describe in detail how the internship training differs from practicum training:

They are very similar
