Our population consists of individuals struggling with co-occurring disorders and come from varying paths of life and cultural backgrounds. Interns will receive didactic training, supervision and assignments to familiarize themselves with this particular population and use appropriate interventions: Multicultural training is part of the didactic schedule, will be incorporated via assignments in individual and group supervision and will be an ongoing part of individual and group supervision. Supervisors will guide interns in adapting protocols and interventions to the population served. Psychological assessments offered at the Mind Therapy Clinic will allow for tailoring to cognitive strength and weaknesses. Working closely with our neuropsychologist and psychiatrist as well as outside treatment providers, interns will learn to collaborate and consult with professionals in order to adapt their interventions to clients' needs. Moreover, interns will participate in self-exploration to promote self-awareness of how their own and clients' culture influence the therapeutic relationship, their assessment and diagnosis, case conceptualization and treatment planning. Group supervision will provide an opportunity for interns to take an active role in discussing and implementing institutional policies that considers the needs of the population served and increase multicultural awareness. Supervisors will consistently evaluate interns' multicultural competence to ensure client well-being. Interns take part in networking events that consist of outreach and education as well as are encouraged to take part in our online blog, writing about topics of interest relevant to the population served.
