Training and Education Offered by Internship

Our mission is to help develop competent, creative and innovative clinicians who are able to work with a broad range of clients. Thus, we foster learning a variety of evidence-based therapies provided by experts in their field. Interns will learn how to adapt their skills to clients with varying levels of distress, ranging from higher functioning outpatient clients to more severely mentally ill clients in our intensive programs. Interns will also learn to work with insurance companies to gather insight into the system, which is often difficult for clients to navigate. Interns will also learn to provide case management as needed to focus on skill building and structured interventions. Interns will learn to work as an extended team by collaborating with external and internal treatment teams. Intern will learn to manage crises.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS OF PREDOCTORAL INTERNS:
Provide individual and group psychotherapy to clients in the facility as directed by clinical supervisor.
Provide case management, which includes tox screens and utilization reviews.
Attend clinical meetings, individual supervision, group supervision, case conferences and didactic trainings.
Engage in autodidactic efforts to increase psychological acumen.
Possess knowledge of psychotropic medications (use and side effects).
Have an understanding of how co-occurring diagnoses can exacerbate the psychiatric diagnosis.
Possess an understanding of the DSM-5 as a basis for diagnosis.
Coordinate care with team and/or outside providers and arrange for appropriate treatment, discharge plans and follow up care.
Protect rights and maintain confidentiality of persons served.
Maintain professional demeanor at all times and remain aware of negative dynamics that may emerge.
Maintain a professional relationship with clinical supervisors, program administrators and clinical staff.
Adhere to established ethical guidelines and California law as it applies to the provision of mental health services.
Provide services only as directed by supervisor within the confines of the program.
Comply with Mind Therapy Clinic's policy requirement to submit proof of valid CDL, maintain good driving record, and submit proof of auto insurance for current period of coverage.
Assure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, and Mind Therapy Policies and Procedures.
Tack their clinical hours.
Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
