Please describe your objective in training Predoctoral interms. Please include a brief description of your training program and how it fits within the goals or mission of your agency:

Our objective in training our predoctoral interns is to help develop advanced competencies in areas he or she has experience in, such as 1) co-facilitation of groups with High Risk Sex Offenders, Substance Abusers, Dual Diagnosis offenders, and Pre-Trial support groups; 2) individual treatment with sex offenders and substance abusers; 3) personality, intelligence, cognitive, mental heath, and risk assessments on forensic clients.

Interns are given more responsibility in terms of case load and participation in trainings.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS OF PREDOCTORAL INTERNS:

Predoctoral interns will attend trainings conducted by outside speakers including, but not limited to, licensed forensic psychologists, parole and probation officers, polygraphers, and various experts in the forensic psychology field. He or she will also attend regional conferences and trainings related to sex offender treatment. There are a number of licensed psychologists on staff that are available to the predoctoral intern for consultation and mentorship. The psychologists on staff mentioned above will also be observing groups and individual sessions, as well as reviewing all paperwork produced by the predoctoral intern. He or she will also have frequent interactions with representatives of agencies that SHARPER FUTURE contracts with such as California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, US Federal Probation, US Pre-Trial Services, Substance Abuse Services Coordinating Agency, and Department of Children Services.

Comments Regarding Theoretical Orientation of Staff

Predoctoral interns will be introduced to SARATSO (State Authorized Risk Assessment Tools used for evaluating Sex Offenders) approved risk assessment measures. Additionally. predoctoral interns will become CASOMB (California Sex Offender Management Board) certified.
