The Academic & Staff Assistance Program (ASAP) offers confidential, cost-free assessment, intervention, consultation, and referral services to all UC Davis Health faculty, staff, and their family members. ASAP also offers departmental consultation, psychoeducational programming, and coordination of wellness activities and programs on the UCDHS campus.Agency Mission

The training objective for interns is to provide a rich and diverse experience that prepares students to be well-rounded clinicians. In addition to strong generalist training in psychology, interns are expected to develop expertise in employee assistance and special awareness of the issues involved in providing psychological services within a workplace setting. Training includes a minimum of two hours per week of case conferences and/or didactic training activities, in addition to two and a half hours of individual supervision. Interns have the opportunity to participate in departmental consultations and present educational talks on campus. Interns also co-facilitate time-limited/theme-oriented support groups (e.g., anger management, coping with grief and loss, parenting, and caregiver support). There are also opportunities for interns to participate in campus committees (e.g., Violence in the Workplace, Medical Staff Well-Being, etc.). Therapeutic interventions include individual, couples, family, and groups.X-Cultural Training
Opportunties:
The staff and faculty population at the UC Davis Health is comprised of diverse ethnicities and cultures. Interns are required to attend a didactic training series on the UC Davis Health campus on diversity, as well as Psychiatry Grand Rounds and other training opportunities at UCDH where diversity and multicultural issues in healthcare are discussed.Responsibilities
The main focus of the training program involves the intake assessment and brief treatment of clients. Interns will provide clients with appropriate and adequate resources and referrals, as necessary. Interns will have opportunities to treat couples and families, and be able to have a portion of their caseload dedicated to seeing longer term psychotherapy clients. All interns will be responsible for co-facilitating at least one theme-oriented support group and making at least one psychoeducational presentation to the UCDH community. Interns will also participate in at least one departmental/management consultation.Prerequisites
Required/Desired Experience:
Previous experience working with adult populations is desirable. Because of the sensitivity involved in providing psychological services within a workplace setting, interns must have a clear and well-developed understanding of professional boundaries and ethics, particularly with regard to issues of confidentiality. Previous employee assistance (EAP) experience is desirable.Brief Description of Requirements:
Pre-doctoral interns must have had at least two previous clinical practicum experiences that have included training in diagnostic/intake interviewing and brief psychotherapy. Intern candidates must be at the formal pre-doctoral intern level, as designated by their academic program.Application Procedures

5. Candidates who are selected are notified according to Uniform Notification Day requirements.

Interview Process:
Intern applicants meet with the Director of Training and with other members of clinical training staff as a group. Case presentations are a part of the interview process.What we are looking for:
