Training and Education Offered by Internship
Please describe your objective in training Predoctoral interms. Please include a brief description of your training program and how it fits within the goals or mission of your agency:
Predoctoral training is designed to further intern's professional development, clinical experience, and identify as a professional psychologist. Interns will participate fully in the agency mission of promoting mental health in the San Ramon Valley by providing a wide range of clinical services and outreach to the local community. Training is focused on providing clinical services to children and families through individual, group, couple, or family therapy. Predoctoral interns will also participate in community outreach projects to further enhance their professional experience and growth. They will also learn and gain experience supervising doctoral trainees.
If applicable, describe in detail how the internship training differs from practicum training:
Second year practicum students work in the schoo-based program only, whereas third year practicum students and predoctoral interns may work in our clinic and/or school-based program. Internship level students will be able to perform psychological testing when our assessment program is up and running, conduct trainings, and expected to do consultation, and outreach in the community. Predoctoral interns will also be involved in professional development seminars. Interns would receive one to two additional hours of training and supervision per week. They work with more complex cases, and work at our clinic seeing a greater range of clients. Interns would also get training and experience supervising practicum trainees.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS OF PREDOCTORAL INTERNS:
School counseling interns are responsible for conducting initial assessment, individual and group counseling, and parent collateral work at the school sites. Clinic interns provide individual, family, couple, and group counseling, provide crisis intervention as needed, perform psychological testing, and assist in lower-level intern training. All interns participate in individual and group supervision, attend weekly didactic training, and professional development seminars, and attend weekly staff meetings. Interns may also supervise 1-2 practicum trainees.
