• California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) Wellness Counseling Center strives to provide culturally informed holistically based services to students, faculty, staff, and the Bay Area community. This goal will be supported by the CAPIC pre-doctoral internship in clinical/counseling psychology focused on direct service delivery to students, outreach and consultation to campus community, and on training of graduate students in clinical psychology. CIIS students are eligible for 8 sessions of psychotherapy per year. • California College of the Arts (CCA) Counseling Services through the CAPIC training program of the CIIS Psychological Services Center is pleased to offer a unique track that offers predoctoral interns the opportunity to receive excellent training and experience working with a diverse population of art students. We provide short-term therapy (and some opportunities for longer-term work), crisis intervention, and outreach for students. CCA students are eligible for 10 sessions of psychotherapy per academic year.

Predoctoral Interns will be trained to provide high quality psychological services to CIIS students and CCA students.

Population

--Wellness Counseling Center services are open to the entire student population of CIIS, which ranges in age from traditional undergraduate age to seniors/elders. CIIS is a commuter school and students represent the demographics of the SF Bay Area - for those who are able to attend a private institution. --CCA Counseling services are open to the entire student population of CCA. Diversity is central to our work at CCA. For example, 42% of our student body are international students and represent 55 countries around the globe. Our students are encouraged to explore and express their intersecting identities of race, gender, sexuality, religion, and national origin.

Training and Education Offered

Predoctoral Interns in the Wellness Counseling Center track and California College of the Arts track will train together at CIIS. Interns in the Wellness Counseling Center track will serve the CIIS student population. This service is provided for all CIIS students (other than PsyD students) as part of the university student services. Interns in the CCA track will serve CCA's student population. Predoctoral Interns will have completed classes and will have the level of training and clinical experience to work with undergraduate and graduate level students from a variety of academic disciplines, including clinical and counseling programs (MA level) within CIIS. This internship will enable Predoctoral Interns to practice from the relational psychodynamic theoretical framework in which they have been trained in the PsyD program. Interns will also learn how to provide brief psychodynamic psychotherapy. Additionally this internship will give them the opportunity to offer needed services to the greater Institute community of which they are a part. Interns and fellows will participate in one to two weekly didactic training seminars. Training topics may include: Brief Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Theory and Technique, Jungian Psychoanalysis, Liberation Psychology, Attachment in the Clinical Setting, Couples Therapy, Group Therapy, Multiculturalism and Diversity, Professional Development, and Supervision of Supervision. In addition, interns will participate in a weekly case conference. Multicultural training is emphasized throughout the didactic and supervisory experiences.

Responsibilities

--Wellness Track: - Provision of short-term individual psychotherapy - 10-12 sessions/week at Wellness - Promotion of the Wellness Counseling Services within the CIIS community --CCA Track: - Provision of short-term individual psychotherapy - 10-12 sessions/week at CCA - Promotion of CCA Counseling Service within the CCA community --Both Tracks: - Group psychotherapy - Psychoeducational groups - Support groups - Community crisis response (e.g., community healing circles) - Workshops - Consultation to staff and faculty - Provide secondary supervision to 1-2 Psychological Services Center Trainees - Facilitate Debrief Group for Foundations Practicum Trainees at PSC in spring and summer

Prerequisites

Brief Description of Requirements:

Students will have completed all degree coursework, all practicum placements, all comprehensive examinations and will have advanced to candidacy.

Application Procedures

Students will apply through CAPIC CUA. Select students will be interviewed by PSC and Wellness staff and then offered positions on uniform notification day.

Interview Process:

Students will be interviewed individually and will be asked to present a clinical case.

What we are looking for:

Interest in and commitment to the CIIS community. Flexibility in working modality (i.e. short-term work, group work, clinical presentations) while grounded in depth theory.
