Multicultural Training

Describe opportunities for multicultural training:

Both the patients and the staff at Gateways are multicultural giving the students an opportunity to work with as well as treat individuals representing many different cultures. The patients that we treat come from varied backgrounds including recent immigrants from Mexico, Central America, Russia, China, Thailand and Viet Nam. The staff is generally able to speak to the patients in their native language. If not, provisions are made to provide a translator. The background and the culture of the patient is always taken into consideration during treatment planning and when interacting with the patient and family. Cultural issues are discussed in individual and group supervision.
