JULIA ANN SINGER Training Program is a part of a private, non-profit agency located in West Los Angeles. JAS Training Program is part of the Outpatient Counseling Center at Vista Del Mar serving underserved, low income, multicultural children, adolescents, and their families. JAS Training program provides family therapy, dyadic therapy with young children, play therapy, individual therapy with adolescents and collateral parenting. The training program has a eco-systemic approach utilizing family systems, psychodynamic, and attachment theories with an emphasis on child development and neurological functions. JAS Training Program has a number of programs and services that focus on helping clients lead self-reliant, stable, and productive lives. The services include Family Therapy, Play Therapy, Collateral/Conjoint Therapy, Case Management, and Crisis Intervention.

Population

JAS Training Program serves children, adolescents, and families in Los Angeles and the surrounding communities encompassing a wide range of racial, ethnic, and cultual groups and socioeconomic statuses. JAS Training Program serves children and adolescents 0-18 years of age struggling with a wide variety of symptomology and diagnostic presentation.

Training and Education Offered

JAS Training Program offers training in family therapy, play therapy, individual adolescent therapy, collateral parenting, and other child and family relevant topics. There is an opportunity to participate in case conference and didactic seminars that include topics related to service delivery as well as multicultural issues, learning disabilities, autism, childhood diagnoses, trauma, and current issues impacting our children and families (e.g., cyberbullying, screet time, substance use, divorce, loss, etc.). Additional training includes special concentrations, e.g., play therapy, family therapy, and case conference (grand rounds).

Responsibilities

On a weekly basis, provide clinical services to 10-15 clinical cases; 2 hours of individual supervision; 1.5 hours play therapy seminar; 1 hour didactic seminar; 1 hour parenting seminar, 1.5 hours of case conference; 1-2 hours of case management.

Required/Desired Experience:

Desired - experience with children and families

Brief Description of Requirements:

Experience working with children preferred, especially with special needs, including social, emotional, behavioral, and cognitive challenges as well as any relevant coursework.

Interview Process:

Group and individual interviews with staff membes to include review of applicant's experience and training to date, provisions of information about the internship, and discussion of various clinical scenarios that illustrate and address typical situations of those seen in treatment at JAS.

What we are looking for:

Experience working with children preferred but not required; relevant coursework is also preferred; evidence of: legal/ethical responsibilities providing mental health services, skill in case conceptualization, ability to interact with a diverse population of clients; a willingness and openness to learn and grow and stretch their clinical repertoire, flexibility and adaptability to deal/cope with inevitable changes in the field of community mental health, and ability and maturity to meet the demands of the internship

Other information:

When working with families of 3 or more, typically our interns will be using a co-therapy model. Co-therapists will be peers, second year interns, and staff.
