Agency Description:
The Life Skills Treatment Program provides a therapeutic day program (Monday through
Friday) for indiviiduals with developmental disabilities who also have psychiatric illness.
The program primarily utilizes a cognitive behavioral approach to teach program
participants skillls such as anger management, conflict resolution, money management,
friendship-making, etc..
Agency Mission:
The Life Skills Treatment Program is based on the premise that persons with developmental disabilities and mental illness are entitled to participate as fully as
possible in family, school, community and work. Dual diagnosis consumers may
suffer from paranoid thoughts, mood swings, disorganized thinking and self-
destructive behaviors that severely restrict their options and choices. Many are
admitted and re-admitted to psychiatric hospitals. The primary aim of the program
is to break this cycle of despair and treatment failure.
Program Motto: "Building Independence, not dependence."
