Agency Description:

History: The clinic has been providing outpatient services for the citizens of the North Central Region for well over 30 years.  Diversity of Population: Ethnic and cultural diversity is a primary strength of the North Central Region. Coming from countries all over the world, this ethnically and culturally diverse population speaks more than 50 languages. As indicated in the 2000 census, the population of the region is 546,319. The racial /ethnic composition is 68% White, 13% Asian, 11% Hispanic, 3% Black, and 5% American Indian- Hawaiian-Pacific Islander and other races. The population is not homogeneously distributed throughout the region. The community of Linda Vista is 26 % Hispanic and 20 % Asian while the Mira Mesa community is nearly 40% Asian.  Diversity of Staff: Staff diversity is reflected in the fact that three clinical staff members are bilingual in English/Spanish, one is bilingual in English/Farsi and another trilingual in English. Amharic and Oromifa. Two support staff is bilingual in English and Tagalog.  Types of clinical Services offered: Walk-in Triage and Referral. Intake Service; Initial Assessment and development of a client plan, orientation to the Clinic; referral and coordination with primary care. Advanced Directive; Psychiatric Treatment & Medication services; Psychiatric Nurse and RN Nurse Consultations; Utilization Review. Therapy: individual and Group Counseling; Group Rehabilitation Services; Brief Individual Counseling; Peer services; Morena Activity Center; Homeless Outreach Services; Emergency Shelter Bed placement and case management services. Trainings:In-service and professional trainings, Peer Programs: Program and Volunteers in Recovery Advisory Group, WRAP, Road map to recovery, softball team, socialization.

Comments Regarding Theoretical Orientation of Staff

Orientation: Staff members have various orientations including DBT, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, EMDR and more. The County of San Diego Mental Health emphasizes a Bio-Psychosocial Rehabilitation approach with strong cultural and trauma informed awareness with an emphasis on co-occurring disorders (alcohol and other drug use) and client centered approach to treatment. As well as integration of physical health and a whole person approach to healing. These values are reflected in all area of the functioning of the clinic.
