Learning Dynamics, Inc. is a 501c3 nonprofit agency that provides culturally-harmonious, psychological and educational services to diverse children and families spanning from preschool through older adulthood. We target financially marginalized, middle-income English and Spanish speaking families that over-qualify for low-fee services and cannot afford full-fee treatments.

To provide prevention, education and treatment, to reduce the impact and stigma of mental illness, learning disabilities, and interpersonal distress.

Population

Trainees have the opportunity to work with a diverse outpatient population, with a range of presenting problems. Diagnoses may include mood disorders, anxiety disorders, relationship problems, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, developmental disabilities, learning disabilities, PTSD/Trauma, work stress, perinatal distress, and adjustment disorders.

Required days and times

Individual work schedules vary depending on the needs of the program(s) served. Psychology trainees have flexibility in making their schedule; provided their schedule does not conflict with expected attendance at meetings and trainings.

Training and Education Offered

Under the supervision of a licensed clinician, this position provides individual therapeutic services to clients in our counseling, Brain Bootcamp, and College Connection programs. This position is designed to deliver services to clients virtually for the training year, with no in-person client contact hours required. Optional: Trainees may choose to see clients in-person in our Bakersfield or Woodland Hills office locations. In-person quarterly attendance at staff development events is required. Learning Dynamics is a community-based organization that provides trainees the opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients with a variety of presenting challenges. Through our didactic trainings and supervision we engage our trainees in self-exploration and strengthen their abilities to integrate culturally responsive evidenced-based research and practices.

Prerequisites

Required/Desired Experience:

Predoctoral Intern Prerequisites: Applicants must be graduates of an accredited program, and have completed all college/unversity internship-ready requirements prior to beginning their pre-doctoral internship. Applicants to our pre-doctoral internship training program should have previous graduate coursework and/or practicum/training experience in the administration of psychological, psychoeducational, and/or neuropsychological assessment measures; providing direct therapeutic interventions to children, adolescents, young adults, and primary caregivers; and experience working with multiple clients at a time (e.g. couple, family, group).

Brief Description of Requirements:

Doctoral student that is cleared for internship in psychology from accredited program. Assessment experience is required for applicants wanting to conduct assessments as part of their training The following qualifications are beneficial, but not required: parent education experience, behavioral analysis coursework/fieldwork, social skills group facilitation, public speaking, fluency in Spanish.

Application Procedures

Please submit CAPIC required application materials long with additional documents requested: sample assessment report (if applicable), graduate transcripts, and names and contact information for three references. At least two references should be able to attest to your clinical skills (e.g., clinical supervisor). If you are interested in completing assessments as part of your training, please include a sample report.

Interview Process:

Applicants interview with at least two staff members. Interviews are conducted virtually.

In addition to the qualifications previously mentioned, we are looking for applicants who have the ability to communicate effectively and professionally verbally and in writing; are self-motivated, hard-workers that are comfortable working independently and as a member of a team; and trainees that sincerely want to hone their clinical skills to better serve their community.
