Interns candidates are also asked to present a case and respond to two written vignettes.

Describe what you are looking for in an applicant:

Home start is looking for applicants with solid character, the ability to work well with peers and other co-workers, knowledge of the dynamics and developmental impact of child abuse (commensurate with the level of training), ability to work with a team and act independently, willingness to do home-based therapy, a desire to learn and a ability to engage in collaborative supervision.

Other information not covered above:

The Home Start internship offers a unique opportunity for training in trauma dynamics, assessment and treatment, including evidence-based best practices of TF-CBT and PCIT. The Clinical Supervisor has provided workshops on child abuse, is an expert in TF-CBT, and has experience in clinical and forensic psychological evaluations. The intern will gain experience with a multicultural and under-served population, interact with professionals in the community (e.g., therapists, psychiatrists, CPS workers, family physicians, school personnel, probation officers, etc.) and learn about community resources for families. Clients will be seen in their natural environments and this is extremely helpful for being strength-based and solution-focused in therapy. Interns will also have the opportunity to attend trainings and conferences on trauma, violence, prevention and other topics. They will have access to our library and resources including books, articles, and videos on psychotherapy.
