Training and Education Offered by Internship

Please describe your objective in training Predoctoral interms. Please include a brief description of your training program and how it fits within the goals or mission of your agency:

The internship program is designed to be student and community centered. From the initial interview, the intern is paired with a primary supervising psychologist who is responsible for integrating the student's strengths into the needs of participating agencies. Through a curriculum of didactic and experiential opportunities, other areas requiring more attention will be strengthened utilizing the necessary supports that augment the training provided by that intern's educational program. Nurturing the intern's gradual transition from student to practitioner, SCTC supervisory staff's objectives are to provide culturally sensitive services in support of the development of culturally competent professionals.

If applicable, describe in detail how the internship training differs from practicum training:

The training process is very team focus. Interns are expected to take on some of the mentoring roles, and if appropriate, peer supervision with the practicum students. Interns are assigned more of the lower-functioning clients and are expected to interface with outside agencies such as medical, case management, courts, etc. Interns also are allowed to serve in the role of consultant and program developer and evaluator for those agencies seeking that level of service. Interns might lead agency staff meetings, conduct trainings to staff, etc.
